Origin of Football

Football, the beautiful game, has a rich history that dates back thousands of years. From the ancient Aztecs playing Tchatali to the Greeks engaging in Episkyros, it is evident that the love for this sport transcends time and culture.

In old Mesoamerican cultures, the Aztecs used a rock as a ball for their game of Tchatali. 

The ancient Greeks also had their version of football called Episkyros. Similar to Tchatali, players would try to move the ball past the opposition using a combination of their hands and feet. 

In China, Cuju was played in the 3rd and 2nd century BC. The game involved a round ball made of leather with fur or feathers inside, and players would kick it around a square area. 

Modern football as we know it originated in Britain in the 19th century. Before standardized rules were established, towns and villages played "folk football" games according to local customs. The establishment of rules was a significant factor in football's global expansion.

In 1863, formal rules were established when the English Football Association was founded, marking the birth of modern football.
