Pheasant Island, a small river island in the Bidasoa River between France and Spain, is a condominium, meaning it is jointly governed by both countries, with responsibility switching every six months, from Spanish to French rule and back.


For six months of the year, the island is under Spanish governance, and for the remaining six months, it is under French governance.
